But, death came for him early, and he resigned his life without ever finding Shade. William is hell bent on completing his father's unfinished business.

Adam Foole, returns to London in search of a lost love. But fate is not on his side. While uncovering the truth, the search leads him to a name -- Edward Shade. 

As the two men continue to try and uncover clues to get closer to the man they loathe, they are destined to form a bond. The story primarily flip flops between these two alternating points of view.

Ian McEwan is best known for the bookAtonement, which was adapted into a 2007 major motion picture starring Keira Kneightly, James McAvoy, and Saoirse Ronan. His new novel Nutshellis one that will grab you by your heels and turn you upside down. You will gasp. You will be intrigued. But most of all, you will revel in this dark but delightful tale of love, betrayal, murder and deceit. 
The crux of the story may seem familiar, but Nutshell is executed with such a precision and finesse, something that you’d expect from Ian McEwan. A pregnant wife is cheating on her husband, plotting to get him out of her life so she can be with her lover. All the while, the entire drama is being witnessed by an unsuspecting soul – the unborn child. The narrative, told from the perspective of the unborn child, is profound, something that you wouldn’t expect from an innocent narrator.

Every kid who has ever had a bear can relate to this book. You want to hold on to your fave friend. Take it everywhere you go. No one wants their bear to be tossed into the washing machine. I can relate. My plush toy never came out looking the same when some bratty kids tossed it into the garden, got it all muddied up, and my mom had to wash it. Yikes, I didn't realize I harboured such strong feelings for this topic. 

Enough about me. In Sam Hay & Nick East's book, the bear finds his way to a washing machine because of the kid's dad who is tired of bear being all muddy and grubby. His heart is in the right place but... 

... things go awry, and Bear is not quite himself when he comes out of the washing machine. He winks, waves and became quite a cheeky little bear. Running up the stairs, making bubbles in the bathroom, pulling the features out of the pillows. Oh what a commotion bear causes. Washing Bear was a big mistake. 

Your story time is bound to have lots of giggles …

Stunning visual imagery complement the playful words. Renowned British designer, Andy Goodman, brings his tried and true whimsical style to this new children's book. IT WAS SO QUIET I COULD HEAR A PIN DROP has a beautiful rhythmic flow to it. The quiet start to the book is accompanied by colours and illustrations that are also so calming. As the book builds up its tempo, the graphical elements get bolder and richer in colour. A very smart concept indeed for a picture book.

"Bear and Hare: Mine" is a beautiful book for no rhyme or reason except that it contains the quintessential elements that captivate younger audiences -- a playful rhythm, simple story telling and beautiful emotive illustrations. This is Emily Gravett's book after all, and the winner of the Kate Greenaway Medal knows how to draw your attention. 
Emily Gravett also wrote and illustrated one of my fave books this year -- TIDY. This book reminded me of how creative books can be, or in my opinion, "should" be. Read all about the book at sukasareads.com
